When the air gets a chill and the stores are filled with pumpkin spice, you are sure to see a very particular flower filling the shelves of nurseries and grocery stores. Their bright colors will adorn porches from September to December, before the majority of them will be discarded in favor of poinsettias or empty planters filled with snow.

Of course, I am talking about mums.

Chrysanthemums, or mums as they are commonly known, are loved for their large bright blooms in a variety of colors, randing from white, to reds, oranges, and purple. If taken care of, these showy beauties will bloom for months, and can return year after year.

This week we will take a closer look at fall’s favorite flower, zooming in on the different varities, tips for making their blooms last, and how you can encourage your mums to come back year after year.

Stay tuned!
